Sealaska president and CEO Chris E. McNeil, Jr. will step down from his position at the annual meeting this year. McNeil announced he will retire September 2013. He has served as Sealaska president and CEO since 2001. He will officially pass the torch to the next CEO at Sealaska’s annual meeting June 28, 2014.
McNeil shared his thoughts about Sealaska’s commitment to preserving and promoting Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian culture and its impact on the region.
He says Sealaska has an important goal to have the capacity to stimulate Southeast’s economy. The other side of that is impacting and perpetuating the culture. “This is really important to all Sealaska shareholders,” said McNeil. It doesn’t matter where they live because I’ve heard them say, you know I might not make it back home, but I can feel confident the culture will remain there.”
