Sealaska is proud to fund the scholarship program. We partner with Sealaska Heritage Institute (SHI) which administers the program. SHI is accepting scholarship applications for the 2016-2017 school year.
Sealaska’s commitment to education is a source of pride and makes a positive impact on communities. In 1988, Sealaska established a $2.5 million endowment to provide a stable source for scholarships. Scholarships are available for Sealaska shareholders and descendants. Additional requirements must be met.
The deadline to apply is March 1, 2016. However, the Sealaska Heritage Institute (SHI) is offering a $50 incentive to those who complete their scholarship application on or before Febuary 1, 2016 and who are accepted as scholarship recipients; if selected as a recipient, the $50 will be included in their scholarship award. Scholarships must be filled out and submitted online at www.sealaskaheritage.org or www.mysealaska.com.
Awards will be made to Sealaska shareholders and descendants enrolled in accredited colleges, universities and voc-tech schools. The scholarships are given to roughly 400 students per year.
The scholarship program was founded by Sealaska and is administered by SHI. Most scholarship funds awarded are provided by Sealaska from an endowment and corporate 7 (i) sharing provisions established under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). The Section 7(i) Agreement among the regional corporations provides scholarships to students seeking degrees in disciplines that lead to employment in Sealaska or its subsidiaries.
