Sealaska Natural Resource & Forestry Trainee Program

This exciting pilot program will offer a meaningful summer experience to one trainee. Sealaska shareholders and descendants with a high school diploma or GED are eligible to apply. The trainee will support the functions and missions of Sealaska’s Natural Resource Department and Sealaska Timber Corporation (STC). This position is located on Prince of Wales Island in southeast Alaska.

Sealaska is pleased to announce the Sealaska Natural Resource & Forestry Trainee Program! This exciting pilot program will offer a meaningful summer experience to one trainee. Sealaska shareholders and descendants with a high school diploma or GED are eligible to apply. The trainee will support the functions and missions of Sealaska’s Natural Resource Department and Sealaska Timber Corporation (STC). This position is located on Prince of Wales Island in southeast Alaska.

The 10 week program will introduce the trainee to the following topic areas:

  • Timber cruising
  • Silviculture
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Common forestry and field tools
  • Wilderness navigation (map & compass use)
  • Basic Forestry skills including common measurements and tools
  • Stream measurement techniques for quantifying fish habitat
  • Wetlands and wetland delineation
  • Principles of statistical investigation
  • GPS data collection and GPS navigation
