Sealaska and The Unity Group Say, “GET OUT THE VOTE!”

This year’s elections hold significant importance for us all, which is why we are encouraging all shareholders and tribal citizens to get out and vote – and bring a loved one, too!

Voting is one of the most powerful ways to make your voice heard. Every vote counts, and your participation can help shape the future of our communities. Make sure you’re prepared for election day by having a voting plan:

• Where is my polling place?
• Do I plan to vote on Election Day, or early vote before?
• What is my method of transportation to the polls?
• Who will I be bringing with me? Are there any Elders or others in my life who might need assistance getting to the polls, too?
• Don’t forget to encourage your friends and family, especially those who may need assistance, to get to the polls.

Our communities can make a difference together! Based on 2020 Census data, Alaska Native people represent about 22 percent of the state’s population. If all eligible Native voters participated in a typical turnout year, Alaskan Native people could make up approximately 25 percent of the electorate at the polls (GONTV) – shaping the electorate and this election’s outcome for the better.

Upcoming deadlines include:

• October 6 – deadline for voters to register or update registration
  • Register to vote: Voter Registration
  • Check or update your voter registration: My Voter Portal
• October 21 – early and absentee voting begins
  • Find early and absentee voting locations: Absentee and Early Voting
• October 26 – absentee ballot by-mail application deadline
• November 4 – last day for early and absentee voting
• November 5 – Election Day!
  • Polls open from 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. Alaska Time

About Get Out The Native Vote

Get Out the Native Vote (GOTNV) is a non-partisan initiative in Alaska aimed at mobilizing Alaska Native and American Indian voters to increase representation at the polls. GOTNV’s roots are in working to ensure every eligible Alaskan is registered to vote, and in removing barriers that prevent registered voters from casting their ballots.

The Southeast Unity Group, comprising Sealaska, Goldbelt, Huna Totem Corporation, Kootznoowoo, SEARHC and other ANC non-profit foundations, are all partners and stakeholders in this effort.
