Internships

As a Sealaska intern or international fellow, you have opportunities to explore your career interests, grow your professional skills and connect with the unique and vibrant cultures of the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian people. You will spend the summer with peers who share an Alaska Native heritage, learning from each other and building a community as you venture into your careers.

Sealaska internships and fellowships are offered with our companies and teams as well as partner organizations. Each summer, internships include Land Stewardship and Environmental Science, Engineering and Technology, Culture and Social Work and Business.

Sealaska Abroad: International Fellowship Program

Explore your career interests at one of Sealaska’s international businesses this summer! Sealaska Abroad offers shareholders who are currently pursuing post-secondary education or have graduated the opportunity to experience a growing industry with international reach. The program emphasizes leadership development, where participants engage in career mentorship and inclusion training to navigate and succeed in diverse business environments.

Students accepted into this fellowship program must be willing and able to commit to the program timeline and travel internationally. Travel and accommodation during the fellowship will be arranged on your behalf.

Program Requirements

  • Sealaska shareholder or descendant of a shareholder
  • Currently enrolled in post-secondary institution or graduated (check role requirements as some require proof of graduation)
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally
  • Commit to 8-week program timeline (2 weeks in Alaska, 6 weeks in the UK)
  • Must be over 18 years old
  • Must have a valid passport

Business Internships

Apply your business acumen to our finance, accounting, human resources and communications teams at Sealaska and our partner companies. You will be a valuable part of the team to drive real growth.

Land Stewardship and Environmental Internships

Join our land stewardship and environmental technician teams in the field this summer. Apply your love of the outdoors to help Sealaska manage its land resources or perform environmental remediation tasks across job sites. 

Engineering and Technology Internships

As a student pursuing a STEM-focused degree, come apply your natural curiosity to one of our engineering, construction management or technology internships. Interns have the opportunity to join our teams to apply their knowledge and help us solve problems facing the environment.

Cultural Preservation and Social Work Internships

Work with teams dedicated to cultural preservation through language, art and archival work. Join our partners dedicated to supporting and uplifting our Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian people in Southeast Alaska.

Program Requirements

Minimum qualifications:

  • Sealaska shareholder, descendant of a shareholder or spouse of a shareholder
  • At least 18 years of age by start date
  • At least a 2.5 GPA
  • Must be currently enrolled in college or a vocational-technical school or a recent graduate (1-2 years)
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Note: Some roles may have more technical requirements than others. Additional minimum qualifications are located in each job description.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong critical thinking and research skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to both collaborate with a team and work independently
  • Self-starter with ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to travel, as needed
